The Survivors of Violent Loss Program Information
The Survivors of Violent Loss Program has become a life preserver for many co-victims. They deserve the kind of specialized support required after the loss of someone in an unnatural, violent way.
It is heartbreaking to someone dear to you. Life as it was known becomes shattered. When someone you love has been murdered or died in a violent way, it is truly devastating.
Beginning in 1998, the Survivors of Violent Loss Program in San Diego began along with the support of many in the community. An overview of our program in PDF format is available to view here.
San Diego statistics between 1998 and August 2001 according to SANDAG there were:
339 Homicides
1079 Suicides
97 Drunk Driving Homicides
Totaling 1,436 deaths.
Program Services include:
- Assessment
- Individual, couples and family therapy
- Groups - Criminal Death Support Group, Restorative Retelling, Teen groups
- Ongoing support
- Referral and Information
- Peer support
- Education, training and supervision
We have developed this site with those of you in mind that live and/or work with violent loss. We intend it to be a safe place as well as a resource. While we know we cannot meet the needs of everyone, we hope you find something for you.
Many of our sections are interactive so please feel free to participate by submitting your thoughts, resources and experiences for our consideration. Your support is our Mission.
You are now a member of a club you never intended to join. You've paid the highest dues anyone could ever pay (says a single parent mom who lost her only child). At this website you will have access to people whose stories will be familiar while at the same time different. People who have shared their stories and are ready to hear yours. People who have been on their journeys for years or are very new to loss. And, People who care about what has happened to you.
We at the Survivor of Violent Loss Network (SVLN) know that we will never be able to erase your loss. Our only hope is that be a part of the journey to help you live better with what has happened. No one should do this alone; it is bigger than all of us.
